The Arizona Sexual Assault Reimbursement Program (SARP) provides reimbursement to survivors of sexual assault who have incurred medical bills as a direct result of the assault. The program can cover medical costs from the initial visit and follow-up care for physical injuries, lab work associated with aftercare, medication (including, but not limited to, STI and HIV prevention/prophylaxis, emergency contraception (otherwise known as “Plan B,”), or other medications as prescribed), medical transportation, and treatment for sexually transmitted infections.
*UPDATE*: As of 10/25/24 ACESDV has increased the scope of services for reimbursement.
Expanded scope of services for reimbursement:
- Costs from the initial visit and care for physical injuries
- Lab work
- Medication coverage
- Medical transportation
- Treatment for sexually transmitted infections
- Payments for Counseling and Therapy
- Transportation Assistance
- Holistic Healing Services
- Temporary Hotel Stays for Safety
- Financial Assistance to Offset Loss of Work
- Home Safety Assistance(home security system)
- Rental Assistance
Eligibilty
To be eligible for reimbursement under SARP:
- The assault occurred in Arizona or the patient received medical treatment in Arizona.
- Must be currently impacted from the assault.
- Applicants must be 18 years or older. For those under 18, a parent or guardian can apply on their behalf.
- No requirement to report to law enforcement.
- Contact the Arizona Sexual and Domestic Violence Helpline.
ACESDV’s SARP cannot reimburse expenses that are eligible for reimbursement by other sources, including insurance.
- Patient must be 18 years or older at the time of application to receive reimbursement.
- If patient is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must apply for reimbursement on the patient’s behalf
- Patient does NOT need to report to law enforcement to be eligible for reimbursement under SARP
