Domestic violence is a pattern of coercive or controlling behaviors in any intimate or familial relationship. It can take many forms including but not limited to:

physical or sexual violence

emotional abuse

financial abuse

technology-based abuse

threats or harm to others in the family including pets

Anyone can experience domestic violence regardless of gender or sexual identity, race, class, religious belief, level of education, immigration, or economic status.

Because it can happen to anyone and in many ways, domestic violence can be difficult to identify. However, all abusive relationships share one thing in common, there is always an imbalance of power and control.
