  • are in danger of being physically hurt or injured
  • have been hurt or injured
  • have been strangled
  • have been strangled and lost consciousness

Most local health centers have or can partner with a local domestic or sexual violence program.  To locate a local health center near you go to https://findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov/ and enter your address.

While not all forms of sexual or domestic violence is physical, one of the most serious and deadly forms of domestic violence is physical abuse. Oftentimes, survivors don’t always take into consideration strangulation or “choking” as a very serious and dangerous act of violence.

If you have experienced a sexual assault or strangulation and are looking to have a medical forensic exam, those are available to you at no cost. For additional details about where to obtain an exam, process, reporting, storing of kits and evidence, as well as what comes after, please visit our Get A Medical Forensic Exam.
